Outline Of The Contents Of The Scars Within

Within this novel, the following questions are answered:

Why are men abusive?

Does their upbringing and their life experiences, especially as children, play a role in them developing into an abuser?

Are they able to break free from being an abuser and if so, how?

Does a man who is prone to abuse seek out a woman who they can control and abuse?

Does a woman who is in an abusive relationship unconsciously choose a man that will abuse and control her and if so, why?  Do her life experiences play a role in this?

Why does a woman who is in an abusive relationship stay in the relationship and why does she tend to move from one abusive relationship to the next?  Do any events in her childhood influence her choice not to leave?

Is there any hope of healing an abusive relationship and if so, how does one go about making the necessary changes?

Is abuse purely physical and sexual or can it be psychological, verbal and emotional as well?  Does physical abuse automatically develop from the other types of abuse?

Does substance abuse, jealousy, pornography and having an affair play a role in the life of an abusive man?

Why do abusive men insist on name calling?

Book Reviews:

"Just finished reading "The Scars Within" and can honestly say it is a book well written, gripping and eye opening. I wanted to strangle both Michael and Tammy. Michael for not recognising what he had in Tammy and Tammy for not just leaving him. Wanted to peek at the last pages but didn't. Liked the part where Jesse came to Michael and showered him with unconditional love! Thank you Lynne for blessing us with a book well written and so inspiring."  - Christa Shawe

"What a rollercoaster ride of emotions reading The Scars Within, anger, joy, being overwhelmed by emotions that I thought I had overcome a long time ago! Lynne Wilhelm you have written an amazing novel so steeped in reality that at times I could feel the raw emotion from Tammy and the other characters. This is a story about unconditional love from God and a woman who would not give up on the man that she loves, no matter what!  I got angry, I cried, I laughed with joy and I got angry again thinking about what parents do to their children and how difficult it can be to break the cycle of abuse.  Thank you so much for this wonderful book that is going to stay with me for a long time.  I will recommend it to everybody - we have the other side of the coin in "how could she stay with him after the way he treats her?" and this answers those questions too. I will definitely be reading it again and I will treasure it forever as part of my collection of very dear books!- Heather de Beer

"I found the book to be very interesting and informative. It caught my attention from the beginning to end and I could hardly put it down. It’s easy to read in a captivating style and provides information while at the same time telling a very good story of hurt, heartache, hope and victory.” - Elizabeth King

‘From the first page the characters came to life.  I felt as if I was part of the lives of dear friends. As the story unfolded, different emotions went through me - from fear to sadness and even anger.  When Karen started giving Tammy advice on how to deal with an abusive partner or influence, I read and reread it. That is something that I would carry with me forever, because in those words I found so much help for so many people.  Practical, the HOW to help.  This is a book I would recommend to people in abusive relationships, the family of those in abusive relationships, in fact ALL to read. We all have scars within ourselves and when one reads a book such as this it gives one the knowledge to start healing and working through those scars, wrapped in a beautifully written, thoroughly enjoyable story.  It is something special!  The fact that even someone as dreadful as Michael can heal and change, to know there is hope opened my eyes. What I also realised is that he needed the WILL to change.  When that was present God took care of the rest.  I honestly thoroughly enjoyed and learned so much from "The Scars Within" - Dr Helena Hendriks

"I recommend the book to all married couples who are perhaps still dealing with childhood scars. It will teach you how only God can provide healing. It is a spirit filled story and an eye opener to many who are building walls around their hearts to avoid getting hurt by the one's that truly love them. It provided inner healing to me and I will read it again."
- Annalie Nel

"It is a delightful book that is not only a wonderful story, but can also be of great benefit to any person in need of information or understanding and dealing with abusive relationships."
- S. Edwards

Background Information Related To The Scars Within:

Why are men abusive?

Does their upbringing and their life experiences, especially as children, play a role in them becoming an abuser?

Are they able to break free from being an abuser and if so, how?

Does a man who is prone to abuse seek out a woman who they can control and abuse?

Does a woman who is in an abusive relationship unconsciously choose a man who will abuse and control her and if so, why?  Do her life experiences play a role in this?

Why does a woman who is in an abusive relationship stay in the relationship and why does she tend to move from one abusive relationship to the next?  Do any events in her childhood influence her choice not to leave?

Is there any hope of healing an abusive relationship and if so, how does one go about making the necessary changes?

Is abuse purely physical and sexual or can it be psychological, verbal and emotional as well?  Does physical abuse automatically develop from the other types of abuse?

Counselling a couple in an abusive relationship is never easy.  Most men who abuse their family deny the fact that they are abusive and will not go for counselling unless, mostly through circumstances, their hand is forced.  Many of them do not want to change and do not respond well to counselling, although thankfully some do.  Many of the men forbid the women to go for counselling.  They isolate them from all support systems and without that women are unable to cope effectively.  The result is that the cycle of abuse will often not end until the woman is destroyed.

Taking the above into account, I felt led to write a book on the subject of an abusive marriage.  I knew however that if I wrote a self-help book on the subject I most likely would not reach the sector that would benefit from it most.  The reason for this is that many women who are in an abusive relationship would likely be punished for bringing such a book into the home and the abuse would be intensified.  My objective therefore became to write the book on a woman trapped in an abusive marriage in such a way that it could easily find its way to my target audience, and the idea of a novel was born.  Add to this, there are sufficient self-help books on the subject, many of the excellent.  It was my goal to create something unique.

Through first hand knowledge from counselling people in relationships and hours of research invested into the topic, including studying writings of some of the leading experts in the field of abusive and misogynistic men, I endeavored to author a book depicting a realistic look into the lives of an abusive relationship in a presentation and writing style that is easy to understand and relate to.  It is my prayer that through the pages of The Scars Within couples will be able to develop hope that healing can take place in an abusive relationship and that the book will be able to give them tools to begin down the road of recovery and healing.
